Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary over the weekend.
McALESTER — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary over the weekend.
The 26-year-old inmate, whose name was not released, died at a McAlester hospital after being found in his cell about 2:45 p.m. Saturday. Smoke was seen coming from the cell, where the inmate had apparently started a fire, warden’s assistant Terry Crenshaw said.

He was taken to the prison’s medical unit, and then to the hospital, Crenshaw said.
