Church plans anniversary events

— Bethel Baptist Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary with events Saturday and Sunday at 1717 W Lindsey. A communitywide concert featuring worship leader and recording artist Dennis Jernigan will be at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Doyle Pryor, senior pastor, will deliver the anniversary sermon at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Dinner at the church will follow Sunday's service. Begun as a mission of First Baptist Church of Norman, Bethel Baptist — then called Southwest Baptist Mission — opened June 2, 1963. For more information, call 329-3749.

Mission effort set in Edmond

— Waterloo Road Baptist Church will package more than 100,000 meals for children in Colombia as part of a Numana mission project Sunday at the church, 3100 E Waterloo Road. Preschoolers to older adults will package the meals assembly-line style during two sessions Sunday — one before the 9:30 a.m. worship service and one after the service. Baha'i center to host activities

— The Edmond Baha'i Faith Center will host two special events in the coming week.

The celebration of the birth of Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i Faith, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the center, 321 E Campbell. The birth of Baha'u'llah is celebrated by Baha'is around the world on the eve of his birthday. Gershon Lewental, Ph.D., will be guest speaker at 11 a.m. Nov. 17 at the center. Lewental, a Schusterman visiting professor of Israel studies, will present a lecture on “The Baha'i Faith and Israel.” The lecture will be preceded by a devotional program at 10 a.m. The public is invited to both events. Youth and young adult conference is set

“The Denial Experience,” a conference for youths and young adults, will be Friday and Nov. 16 at Fairview Baptist Church, 1700 NE 7. The event, hosted by the church's young adult ministry, will feature gospel recording artist, singer-songwriter and producer Tye Tribbett, who also is a preacher and businessman.
