Have you ever been turned away at a restaurant because the color or your skin or perceived sexual orientation?

One of the top trending stories on NewsOK today is about this very issue.

It’s about an Enid restaurant owner who has come under fire for discriminating against gay people and reportedly turning away ethnic minorities and people with disabilities.

Meet Gary James, owner of Gary’s Chicaros.

News9 did a story about James in 2009 when he was running for a spot on the Enid City Council. Back then, he even admitted he wouldn’t allow certain people into his business.

“If I discriminate, it’s against the people I dislike,” James said.

He recently did another interview with KFOR about complaints patrons have made regarding his attitude toward blacks, Hispanics and homosexuals.

“I’ve been in business 44 years, I think I can spot a freak or a f*ggot,” James said.

He later added, “I really don’t want gays around. Any man that would compromise his own body would compromise anything.”

KFOR also notes his business attire can even be viewed as offensive. The T-shirt he wears has the N-word on the front, features derogatory slogans and homosexuals and threatens violence against Muslims, minorities and democrats.

And, apparently, James says he’s proud to wear that shirt.

“Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, you’re more than welcome here. If you’re on welfare, stay at home and spend my money, there,” he said.
