Thunder star will serve chicken

“The Beard” will surprise customers by serving meals at Raising Cane's newest metro area location in Edmond from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Oklahoma City Thunder player James Harden will be working the counter and drive-thru as well as signing autographs and taking photos with fans. “We're really looking forward to having James at our new restaurant,” said general manager Jared Dunn. “We're all huge Thunder fans, of course, and we think our customers will get a kick out of seeing him at the drive-thru window and serving up Cane's chicken fingers from behind the counter.” The Edmond location at 1225 E Second St. opened last week.

Freddy's plans Norman eatery

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers announced plans to build a new location in Norman at 24th Avenue NW and Main Street. The 3,300-square-foot restaurant is expected to open early next year and will feature outdoor seating and a drive-thru. Crews began tearing down a former bank at the site last week. Freddy's, based in Wichita, Kan., has 11 Oklahoma locations.

Stockyards City sets knife event

W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. will sponsor an event from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at Little Joe's Boots, 2219 Exchange Ave., in Stockyards City. Artisans from the company will be on hand to clean and sharpen Case knives for free and host a build-a-knife session. Attendees can purchase limited edition knives, win door prizes and receive free gifts. The retailer also will offer a discount on Case products on the day of the event.
