on Oklahoma roadways
The deaths of four people resulting from traffic accidents were reported by authorities Wednesday.
Scott Earl Griffin, 33,Locust Grove
Griffin was arguing with the driver of a sport utility vehicle when he opened the door and left the SUV while it was still moving on State Highway 82, just north of Locust Grove, about 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to a patrol report. Three other passengers in the vehicle were not named by the patrol Wednesday night.
John L.D. Scott, 34, of Kildare, and
Billy Patterson, 58, of Newkirk.
Scott and Patterson were pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said the four-door car driven by Scott failed to yield at an intersection while traveling east, running into the path of the northbound vehicle driven by Quentin Bergkamp, 78, of Arkansas City, Kan. Two passengers in Bergkamp's car were injured. Emily Bergkamp, 30, was treated at an area hospital and released. Carolyn Bergkamp, 64, was admitted to a hospital in fair condition.
Ruston died at OU Medical Center after he was hit by a car driven by Jasmine Hope Cotter, 18, of Jones, about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on State Highway 1 near Ada, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. Troopers said Cotter was driving westbound on the eastbound shoulder and she hit Ruston, who was walking west. Ruston was pulled beneath the 2003 Ford Taurus and run over. He died Wednesday morning.
