Oklahoma Rowing pitches in for tornado relief

by Stephanie Kuzydym Published: May 23, 2013

Melissa Simpson is from California, but her home right now is Oklahoma.

The Sooner rower and 11 teammates helped a family move from their home on the west side of I-35 in Moore. While the home was not badly damaged, debris was scattered across the front yard.

Simpson said, though, that the family had to evacuate their home because they were told they couldn’t sleep in it.

The rowers helped load up furniture and boxes for an hour and a half into a moving truck in the driveway as the family’s badly damaged car sat in the front lawn.

“There was so much damage to their neighborhood,” Simpson said. “I just wanted to help any way possible.”
