The Western Division champion Oklahoma City Barons open the American Hockey League season with two straight road games, before starting the home portion of the schedule Oct. 19 against the San Antonio Rampage.
The AHL released its 2012-13 schedule, and it has the Barons playing Oct. 12 and 13 in Cleveland against the Lake Erie Monsters. Oklahoma City will have a week off before its home opener, 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, against San Antonio in the Cox Center. The division rivals hooked up in the Western Conference semifinals last season, where the Barons won a best-of-7 series.
Oklahoma City lost to the Toronto Marlies in the conference finals; the Barons and Marlies will meet for the first time this season at 10:35 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in a Field Trip Day game at the Cox Center.
The AHL renamed the Western Division as the South Division. The Barons will play 44 of its 76 games against division rivals Houston, San Antonio, Texas and Charlotte. Faceoff for games scheduled Monday through Saturday will be 7 p.m. Sunday games will start at 4 p.m. Various season-ticket packages are available by calling (405) 232-4625.

SWINDELL WINS ASCS RACE
Kevin Swindell of Germantown, Tenn., won an American Sprint Car Series national tour race late Thursday night in Salina, Kan. The ASCS national tour began its scheduled weekend stops through Oklahoma late Friday night at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa. Racing is scheduled to continue at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Lawton Speedway.
Swindell, the son of legendary sprint car driver Sammy Swindell, continued to make a name for himself in Salina, Kan. He became the 18th different feature winner on the ASCS national tour this season, holding off a late challenge from current points leader Jason Johnson of Eunice, La. Oklahoma City native Wayne Johnson finished fifth in the feature; he and several Oklahoma-based drivers are scheduled to race Saturday night in Lawton.

OSU, OU WIN OPENERS
The Oklahoma State and Oklahoma soccer teams opened the regular season Friday night with home victories.
No. 5-ranked OSU tripped Missouri-Kansas City 1-0 with a goal in the 74th minute. Oklahoma came back to beat Nebraska 2-1, getting two goals from Renae Cuellar. She scored the winner at the 67:29 mark of the second half.
OU FINISHES UNBEATEN
The Oklahoma women's basketball team finished its four-game exhibition tour through Australia unbeaten, including a 70-59 victory over the Sydney Flames. Portia Durrett had 13 of her team-high 14 points in the second half for OU, which beat another team from the Australian Women's National Basketball League. The Sooners also whipped the defending WNBL champion Dandenong Rangers 89-60 during the tour.
