Oklahoma scene: Barons will host Houston Aeros in two exhibition games
Fans will get a preview of what is expected to be a strong Oklahoma City team. Edmonton Oilers stars Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle will be with the Barons for as long as NHL lockout lasts.
The Oklahoma City Barons will host the Houston Aeros in two American Hockey League exhibition games, Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, at the Cox Convention Center.
The public can attend the games with a donation to Infant Crisis Services of Oklahoma City. Suggested donation items include sippy cups, baby bottles, pacifiers, baby shampoo, diapers and new or gently used toys. Donations can be made at the Cox Center box office, beginning at 5 p.m., on the day of the games.
The exhibitions will give fans a preview of what is expected to be a strong Barons team. Due to the NHL lockout, the Barons will have Edmonton Oilers stars Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle on the roster. The No. 1 draft picks combined for 128 points last season. The Barons' No. 1 forward line from last season — Josh Green, Teemu Hartikainen and Magnus Paajarvi — are also on the team.
Training camp opens Sept. 30 at the Cox Center. For season ticket information, call the Barons office at (405) 232-4625.
CLASS OF '82 REMEMBERS THE PATS
Former Putnam City West football great Mike Cutter will present a $10,000 check to the school's athletic department during a homecoming assembly at 2 p.m. Friday. Cutter was a senior running back who helped PC West finish 14-0 and as Class 4A (now 6A) state champion for 1981 season. The money comes from the Patriots' Class of 1982, which held its 30-year reunion in June. The PC West athletic department has struggled financially in recent years; the Class of '82 hopes the donation will help purchase equipment needed for all sports.
