PIKE TO THROW THURSDAY
Oklahoma City U. pitcher Chris Pike will try for a third consecutive no-hitter at 2 p.m. Thursday, when the fifth-ranked Stars (19-6) host No. 11 Oklahoma Baptist (23-3) in a Sooner Athletic Conference baseball game at Jim Wade Stadium on the OCU campus.
Pike has 35 strikeouts with one walk over his last two starts, which included a perfect game on March 7 against St. Gregory’s. He was a second-inning walk away from two-straight perfect games, when OCU wiped out Southwestern Christian 18-0 on March 14.
The senior right-hander is 4-1 this season with a 1.64 earned-run average. Pike has 62 strikeouts and four complete games.
Oklahoma led after the first inning, but Arkansas-Little Rock took over after that and handed the Sooners an 11-2 baseball loss on Wednesday at Mitchell Park in Norman.
Arkansas-Little Rock’s only error contributed to OU taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Trojans (10-8) took the lead for good in the third inning, mashing starting pitcher Alec Hansen for five runs on three hits.
Joseph Paulino led UALR with three hits and two RBIs. OU (16-6) managed just five hits against four pitchers.
The Sooners will begin Big 12 play at 6 p.m. Friday against Kansas State at Mitchell Park.
