Danny Jennings swept a National Championship Racing Association sprint car doubleheader over the weekend in Kansas and Oklahoma. The five-time champion at now-defunct State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City, won the A feature on Saturday night in Park City, Kan., and the main event Sunday at Enid Speedway.
Jennings led the 25-lap race Sunday from start to finish. The Norman resident has eight career feature wins on the NCRA circuit, which mostly consists of Kansas drivers. Jennings pocketed $2,000 by holding off runner-up C.J. Johnson of Quinter, Kan. Johnson is the NCRA points leader.
*Oklahoma Sports Park near Ada will host the fourth annual Harold Leep Jr. Memorial sprint car races at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Oil Capital Racing Series is sanctioning the event, which honors the former racer. Leep died four years ago.
OCRS points leader Jamie Passmore of Rose will try for his 10th feature win of the season.
Oklahoma Sports Park is located 10 miles northwest of Ada on State Highway 3W.
EAGLES WIN REGIONAL
The Oklahoma Eagles advanced to the Mid America Youth Basketball National Tournament by winning a regional championship in Denton, Texas. The Eagles, a team of high-school-age players, defeated the Kansas City Alyance 64-48 in the title game.
The national tournament is scheduled Aug. 2-5 in Wichita, Kan.
Team members are Vaughn Raney of Cashion; Shayne Thornton of Elk City; Jackson Winthrow of Shawnee; Ike Leggins of Oklahoma City; James Bagwell of Edmond; Mika Speight of Oklahoma City; Eric Booker of Oklahoma City; Kristian Doolittle of Edmond; and Chandler Anthony of Tuttle. The Eagles are coached by Larry Jenkins of Edmond.
