Harold "Buddy" Hudson, who in 1958 broke the OU basketball color barrier, died Tuesday of a heart attack. He was 75.

Hudson graduated from Purcell High School in 1956 and was the first black player to play in the All-State basketball game. Hudson then went to Oklahoma Baptist University and later transferred to OU, where he started for Doyle Parrack's 1958-59 Sooner squad, which finished 15-10 overall, 9-5 in the Big Eight.

A 6-foot-2 guard, Hudson played two seasons for the Sooners and eventually earned bachelor's and master's degrees from OU before settling in Kansas City, where he taught math and history to junior high and high school students.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, whom he met at Oklahoma Baptist, and their two sons.

OCU WINS 9TH NAIA CHAMPIONSHIP

Oklahoma City University won its ninth NAIA men's golf championship, and the Stars' Sondre Ronold won the individual title Friday at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore.

OCU was the only team to finish under par — 4-under 1,148 for four rounds. The Stars finished 28 strokes ahead of No. 1-ranked Texas Wesleyan and 33 shots in front of No. 3-ranked Cal State-San Marcos. The 28-shot advantage over Texas Wesleyan is the largest margin of victory since 2005, when Johnson & Wales (Fla.) beat Oklahoma Christian by 28.

Ronold, a senior from Stavanger, Norway, finished the tournament with a 5-under 283. His round scores were 69-69-74-71. Ronold used five birdies in the final round to beat Aaron Flores of Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) and Adam Loran of Cal State-San Marcos by two shots.

OSU FALLS TO FOURTH

Oklahoma State dropped a spot to fourth place Friday at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional at the Blessings Golf Club in Arkansas. The Cowboys shot 16-over par for the day and now stand 17 strokes behind tournament leader Arkansas.
