Oklahoma scene: Kids can try hockey for free

The Oklahoma City Barons, in conjunction with Arctic Edge and Blazers Ice Centre, are hosting Try Hockey for Free Day on Saturday. Kids ages 5-12 can try on hockey gear and skate free of charge. The Arctic Edge in Edmond is hosting the first session from 9 to 10 a.m., and Blazers Ice Centre in Oklahoma City will have the second session from 2 to 3 p.m. Anyone who participates are eligible for special discount tickets to the Barons' Nov. 11 game against Charlotte in the Cox Center.

COWGIRLS FACE TEXAS

No. 2-ranked Oklahoma State will play Texas at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the Big 12 Soccer Championships semifinals. The game at Blossom Stadium in San Antonio can be watched at www.big12sports.com. OSU is 18-0-2 and the tournament's top seed. Texas is 11-7-1. The winner of Friday's game will play the victor between Missouri (12-7-1) and Texas A&M (13-5-2) for the league championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. The Tigers and Aggies play at 8 p.m. Friday.

The Big 12 title game is 3:30 p.m. Sunday. It will be televised by FSN.

K-STATE TOPS OCU

Kansas State scored 22 points off turnovers Thursday night, and that helped the Wildcats beat NAIA women's basketball power Oklahoma City 63-51 in an exhibition game at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan. Brittany Chambers had 19 points, and Jalana Childs added 13 for Kansas State, which led the Stars by just five points at halftime.

Desiree Jeffries had 17 points, and Dietra Caldwell 14 for OCU.
