Oklahoma scene: NEO awaits word on possible bowl invitation

The Golden Norse are 9-2 and ranked No. 9 in the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The National Junior College Athletic Association has 10 bowl slots available, and Northeastern A&M is a candidate to play in one of those with its 9-2 record. NEO had a five-game win streak snapped Saturday, losing to Navarro (Texas) 62-24 in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship game in Miami, OK.

Northeastern A&M fell from No. 4 to No. 9 in the NJCAA ratings Monday. Navarro went from No. 9 to No. 5. Navarro won its third consecutive conference championship, its first under new coach Brian Mayper. The previous two titles came under Nick Bobeck, who just finished his first season as Central Oklahoma head coach.


Four Oklahoma small college soccer teams will are begin postseason action this week, with three schools serving as host sites.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma will host an Opening Round of the NAIA Men's Tournament. The Drovers will play Grand View (Iowa) at 7 p.m. Saturday on Hampton Field at Chickasha High School. USAO is in its fourth consecutive national tournament, but it is the first time the school will host an Opening Round. The USAO (13-0-4)-Grand View (9-7-2) winner will advance to the national championship round bracket, which runs Nov. 26 through Dec. 1 in Montgomery, Ala. ... The Oklahoma Baptist men's team will play an Opening Round game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against Mid-America Nazarene in Olathe, Kan. OBU (8-8-1) lost to the Pioneers 6-2 last season. Mid-America Nazarene is 12-1-7, with its lone loss this season 1-0 to Baker (Kan.). Oklahoma Baptist qualified for the postseason by winning the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. ... Oklahoma City U. will host Doane (Neb.) at 2 p.m. Saturday in an NAIA Opening Round women's contest at Stars Field. OCU (19-1-0) is hosting the Opening Round for the third straight season. The Stars are 7-6-1 all time in the national tournament; their only championship appearance came in 2001. ... Northeastern State in Tahlequah will host an NCAA Division II men's round of 16, starting Friday at DeLoache Field. The RiverHawks will play Fort Hays State (Kan.) at 7 p.m., which follows a 4 p.m. game between Rockhurst (Mo.) and Saginaw Valley State (Mich.). The winners will play at 1 p.m. Saturday.
