Northwestern Oklahoma State football coach Alan Hall has a form of lymphoma, according to a school press release. Hall, who recently completed his first season at the Alva school, is scheduled to begin treatment for the cancer within the next 10 days.

Hall told the team of his illness earlier this week. He is expected to remain in charge of the football program, Northwestern State athletic director Andy Carter said. Assistant coaches will help handle day-to-day operations once Hall begins treatment.

The Rangers finished this season with a 4-7 record, winning their last four games. Northwestern State is in a probationary period as it goes from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.

“Alan has been in constant communication with me about his condition and how he intends to move forward,” Clark said in a statement. “He remains fully involved in the recruiting process and moving the program forward. Our primary concern is Coach Hall's health and supporting him and his family during this time.”

Hall is married with children ages 6 and 1.

OCU TO HONOR SAM PRESTI

Oklahoma City Thunder executive vice president and general manager Sam Presti has been named winner of the Abe Lemons/Paul Hansen Award for Sports Excellence. Presti will be honored at the annual Oklahoma City University Sports Spectacular dinner and auction on March 25. The 6 p.m. ceremony will be held at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

The award goes to an individual who has made significant contributions to sports in Oklahoma. Presti has built the Thunder, through the draft and trades, into one of the NBA's elite teams.
