SOONERS BEAT ABILENE CHRISTIAN
Five Oklahoma pitchers had solid performances on Wednesday, and the Sooners beat Abilene Christian 4-1 in baseball at Mitchell Park in Norman.
Octavio Rodriguez, Robert Tasin, Kindle Ladd, Kyle Hayes and Ralph Garza Jr. combined for eight strikeouts and just two walks. Abilene Christian (6-3) had six hits, but it didn’t score until the eighth inning to cut the Sooners’ lead to 2-1. But OU (8-4) countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to give Garza some cushion for his second save of the season.
Hunter Haley and Taylor Alspaugh homered for the Sooners. Craig Aikin added three hits.
Due to a forecast of rain on Saturday, the softball schedule for the OU-hosted Courtyard Marriott Tournament has changed.
Defending national champion Oklahoma (14-6) will play Liberty (2-15) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Western Illinois (10-3) at 5:45. On Saturday, the Sooners will play Tulsa (16-2) at 1:30 p.m. Sunday’s game, scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start, against Western Illinois remains the same.
