The Oklahoma softball team swept the Big 12 Conference's postseason honors.
OU's Patty Gasso was named coach of the year, Keilani Ricketts was named pitcher of the year, and Shelby Pendley was named player of the year in a vote of the league's coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Ricketts, a senior, posted a 25-1 record with a 1.14 ERA and 264 strikeouts in 172 innings. Pendley, a sophomore transfer from Arizona, hit .376 with 18 home runs and 61 RBIs this season as a
The Sooners also placed 11 players on All-Big 12 teams. Senior outfielder Brianna Turang, junior outfielder Destinee Martinez and sophomore infielder Lauren Chamberlain were named to the first team, along with Ricketts and Pendley. Senior pitcher Michelle Gascoigne and sophomore Georgia Casey grabbed second-team honors. Ricketts, Turang, Casey and senior catcher Jessica Shults were honored on the All-Big 12 defensive team.
Oklahoma State's Tarah Ettinger was named to the All-Big 12 second team.
NCAA DIVISION II WOMEN'S GOLF TOURNEY STARTS WEDNESDAY
Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State, along with Southwestern Oklahoma State's Ashlynn Hall, open play in the NCAA Division II women's golf tournament on Wednesday at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Hall qualified as an individual out of the Central Super Regional, where UCO and Northeastern State advanced in the team race.
Junior Aly Seng, who is from Enid, leads the UCO women with a 78.0 scoring average. Freshman McCandren Lewis, who is from Guthrie, led the NSU women at the Central Super Regional with a sixth-place finish.
OSU stops Shockers
Oklahoma State scored four runs in the seventh inning and three in the eighth for a 7-2 baseball win at Wichita State on Tuesday. Randy McCurry and Saulyer Saxon drove in two runs apiece for OSU (37-13). Saxon had four hits.
Kenton Bevacqua (2-2) picked up the win, allowing six hits and run in 6 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts.
OSU plays host to West Virginia in a three-game series beginning Thursday.
Dallas Baptist beats OU
Dallas Baptist scored five runs in the third inning and held on for a 6-4 baseball win over Oklahoma on Tuesday in Norman.
Kolbey Carpenter drove in two runs to pace the offense for OU (35-17). Austin Listi drove in three runs for Dallas Baptist.
OU starter Adam Choplick (3-3) took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Kindle Ladd had a solid relief outing, though, striking out six in six innings of work.
The Sooners open a three-game series at Kansas State on Friday.
