Oklahoma scene: Oklahoma State men win Big 12 cross country title

The Oklahoma State men's cross country team won the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, while Oklahoma finished third.

In the women's division, Iowa State rolled to the title, beating second-place Oklahoma State by nearly 50 points. Oklahoma finished ninth.

Oklahoma State's Girma Mecheso finished second in the men's division with a time of 23:58.1. Teammates Shadrack Kipchirchir and Tom Farrell finished third and fourth, respectively.

Patrick Casey finished fifth for the Sooners with a time of 24:01.4.

Monika Juodeskaite finished fourth for Oklahoma State with a time of 20:20.9. Oklahoma's Jessica Engel was fifth with a time of 20:25.5.

YUKON, NORTHWEST WIN SANDRIDGE CUPS

Yukon won the overall point in the paddling in the OKC RIVERSPORT's SandRidge Energy Youth League on Saturday.

Northwest Classen also finished first in the rowing regatta.

Northwest is also the SandRidge Cup winner after winning a 500-meter rowing race.

TULSA WINS EXHIBITION

Tulsa won its men's basketball exhibition opener under new coach Danny Manning on Saturday, beating Emporia State 60-49.

Sophomore Rashad Smith led the Golden Hurricane with 19 points and nine rebounds, while former Edmond Memorial standout James Woodard added 12 points.
