Share “Oklahoma scene: OSU beats Loyola-Marymount”

From Staff Reports Published: March 10, 2013

Oklahoma State posted its third walk-off baseball victory in four games Sunday, beating Loyola-Marymount 4-3 at Reynolds Stadium. A crowd of 144 endured 38 degrees and wind gusts of up to 23 mph to watch the Cowboys improve to 12-3. Zach Fish's run-scoring single with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning ended it.

“Our kids showed a lot of resiliency on an extremely cold, difficult day to play,” said OSU coach Josh Holliday. “They grinded that game out to the last pitch, and that's what you ask for as a coach. I'm very proud of our team. To have three walk-off wins in one calendar week says a lot about them — a lot of teams don't have three walk-off win a year, and our kids just did that in five days.”

The Cardiac Cowboys trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the eighth inning. With two runners on and one out, Randy McCurry plated the tying run with a single off the glove of third baseman Joey Boney.

Both starting pitchers, Aaron Griffin of Loyola-Marymount and Tyler Nurdin of OSU, had eight strikeouts.

Oklahoma State will play 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Pacific (Calif.) at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.

The No. 10-ranked Oklahoma baseball team lost a 6-5 decision in 11 innings to No. 22 Notre Dame on Sunday at Jackie Robinson Stadium on the UCLA campus. Kevin DeFilippis' pinch-hit single drove in the winning run with one out off reliever Billy Waltrip. OU (12-4) rallied for 4-2 and 5-4 leads, but the Irish notched the tying run in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extras.
