Oklahoma State stormed to the lead Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Columbia Men’s Golf Regional at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Missouri.
The Cowboys finished with a 16-under-par 272. Second-place Missouri had an exceptional day, too, but the Tigers still trailed OSU by nine strokes.
Four OSU golfers were in the top-seven, including Jordan Niebrugge, who topped the leaderboard with a 7-under 65. Teammate Talor Gooch was second, two strokes behind. Ian Davis and Wyndham Clark were tied for seventh with 2-under 70s.
OU SECOND IN EUGENE
Oklahoma shot an even-par 280 as a team Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Eugene Men’s Golf Regional at the Eugene Country Club in Oregon. The Sooners were in second place, four shots behind Stanford.
Michael Gellerman and Beau Titsworth were OU’s top golfers, tying for sixth place with 69s. They were three strokes behind leader Patrick Rodgers of Stanford and two shots shy of second-place Chris Robb of Chattanooga.
OBU HEADED TO WORLD SERIES
The Oklahoma Baptist baseball team is headed to the NAIA World Series after its 13-6 rout of Bellevue (Neb.) on Thursday in an Opening Round Bracket championship game in Shawnee. Bellevue forced an if-necessary game earlier in the day with a 4-2 victory over the Bison.
OBU (53-7) advances to the 2014 Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, set to begin May 23.
Bellevue finished its season 40-17.
Matt Page was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a run scored in the second game for OBU. Teammate Ridge Hoopii-Haslam was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
