Oklahoma scene: OSU's Andrew Heaney named All-American by Baseball America

Oklahoma State junior pitcher Andrew Heaney was named to Baseball America's College Baseball All-American First Team.

That makes Heaney a unanimous All-American selection. He also received first-team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the American Baseball Coaches Association.

He is the 10th OSU player to earn First-Team All-America honors from Baseball America and the first since Jason Bell in 1994.

Heaney, a left-hander, was the ninth overall pick by Miami in the Major League Baseball Draft. He was 8-2 with a 1.60 ERA for the Cowboys this season.

Oral Roberts' Allen makes British Olympic team

Former Oral Roberts women's basketball player Dominique Allen has been selected to play for Great Britain in this summer's Olympics.

Allen averaged 3.4 points and 3.7 rebounds in her career at ORU, which concluded last season. The 6-foot-2 center will become the first Golden Eagles player to compete in the Olympics.

Candyce McGrone advances in women's 100

Former Sooner Candyce McGrone advanced to the semifinals of the women's 100-meter dash Friday at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.

She finished 18th overall at 11.38 seconds and fifth in her heat. She was aided by having the second fastest reaction time (.139).

The semifinals are Saturday at 5:40 p.m. and the finals are scheduled for 7:52 p.m. as the premier event of NBC's live coverage.

Also, former Sooner Leslie Cole missed advancing to the semifinals in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.45.

Senior Alexandra Acker was scheduled to compete in the pole vault, but rain postponed the event until Saturday.

Former Sooners Kevin Bookout, Mookie Salaam and Toni Smith begin competition Saturday.
