The Oklahoma wrestling team will open its regular season at 7 p.m. Friday against Oklahoma City University at McCasland Field House in Norman.
The No. 11 Sooners have five wrestlers who are ranked, including All-American Kendric Maples at 141 pounds. Maples is No. 1 at the weight.
Nick Lester is No. 9 at 149 pounds; brother Matt Lester is No. 12 at 157; Bubby Graham is No. 9 at 165; and Keldrick Hall is No. 20 at heavyweight.
Oklahoma City, which competes in the NAIA, has All-Americans in Mitchell Eichenauer at 184 pounds and Michael Brown at 197.
OU leads the series 6-0 against the Stars. Tickets are available at the field house or by calling in advance at (405) 325-2424.
COWGIRLS GET REGIONAL
The Oklahoma State women's golf team will host one of three NCAA regionals in 2014. The Central Regional will be held at Karsten Creek in Stillwater. The tournament dates are May 8-10. It will be the first NCAA women's regional held at Karsten Creek; the Cowboys' and Cowgirls' home course has hosted NCAA men's events, including the championship rounds in 2003 and 2011.
The other women's regional sites in 2014 will be SouthWood Golf Club hosted by Florida State (East) and Tumble Creek at Suncadia Resort hosted by Washington (West).
RED BEATS WHITE
Jack Mayfield had two hits and a run batted in, and Mac James added a hit and two RBIs as the Red trimmed the White 7-6 in Game 1 of the OU baseball team's annual intrasquad series. Game 2 is scheduled 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mitchell Park in Norman. The best-of-5 series is open to the public free of admission.
The Sooners released the 2013 schedule, which can be found on page 6C. OU has a 31-game home schedule, including six-game homestand to open the season. The Sooners' opener is 3 p.m. Feb. 15 against Hofstra.
SOONERS BEAT ALL-STARS
Georgia Casey's two-run homer and Keilani Ricketts' RBI single rallied Oklahoma to a 5-3 victory over the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars in an exhibition softball game Thursday night at Marita Hynes Field in Norman. Ricketts threw 51/3 innings, striking out three and allowing two unearned runs. The Sooners, who finished runner-up at the Women's College World Series last spring in Oklahoma City, open the regular season in February.
