Renae Cuellar of Oklahoma was selected by coaches as the Big 12 Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. The senior from LaPuente, Calif., is the first player to earn Offensive Player of the Year in the 16-year history of OU soccer. Cuellar led the Sooners during the regular season with 26 points, including a team-best 12 goals. The Arizona transfer was twice named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week this season and National Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Week once.
Oklahoma State goalkeeper AD Franch joined Cuellar on the All-Big 12 First Team. Franch has been one of the best goalkeepers in league history, collecting 38 shutouts with a 0.66 goals against average in four years. It was the fourth consecutive season Franch has been chosen for the Big 12 first team.
WRESTLING HALL TO ADD 4
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater announced Monday its next induction class and a lifetime achievement award winner.
Melvin Douglas, Dan Chandler, Matt Ghaffari and Ron Gray will be inducted during the Honors Weekend, scheduled May 31 and June 1. Douglas, Chandler and Ghaffari represented the U.S. in the Olympics, while Gray won two national championships as a 147-pounder at Iowa State. Pat Fitzgerald of Edmond will receive the Lifetime Achievement for Officials award. Fitzgerald has served as an official at 21 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.
OCU FACES BAYLOR
The Oklahoma City University women's basketball team, coming off winning the NAIA championship, gets a shot at defending NCAA champion Baylor at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas. OCU was ranked No. 10 in the preseason NAIA poll; the Stars return just two starters from a 35-1 team in Lauren Gober and Desiree Jeffries. Baylor, however, returns all five of its starters from a 40-0 team, including Brittney Griner, the reigning Player of the Year.
