Oklahoma scene: OU's Aaryn Ellenberg honored by Big 12

Aaryn Ellenberg of Oklahoma was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The senior guard averaged 21.5 points and 8.0 rebounds during Preseason WNIT games against then-No. 25 Gonzaga and No. 5 Louisville. She set the tournament record for 3-pointers made with 15 in four games.

OU next plays 7 p.m. Wednesday against visiting Texas-Arlington.


Sallie McLaurin of Oklahoma was selected Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week. It was the fifth time this season the senior middle blocker has been honored; it ties a conference record set in 2012 by Texas' Haley Eckerman.

McLaurin hit .475 with 3.50 kills per set average while helping the Sooners win beat TCU and Baylor.

OU plays 6 p.m. Wednesday at Texas Tech.


The Oklahoma State men moved to No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings. The Cowboys, who won the NCAA Midwest Regional championship on Friday, collected four of 12 possible first-place votes. Top-ranked Northern Arizona had six first-place votes, and No. 3 Colorado had two.

Tulsa was ranked ninth.

The NCAA Cross Country Championships are Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind.


The national champion Oklahoma softball team released its 2014 schedule on Tuesday, and the Sooners will play 11 teams that qualified for postseason play last spring.

OU opens the season Feb. 7 against Kentucky at the Easton Tournament in Fullerton, Calif. The Sooners' home opener will be March 1 against Nebraska.

Oklahoma is looking to become the first team to repeat as national champ since Arizona in 2006 and 2007.
