OSU WRESTLERS ARE
Oklahoma State national champion wrestlers Chris Perry and Alex Dieringer are among five finalists for the Dan Hodge Trophy. The award is the highest non-academic honor a wrestler can receive. It has been given to the nation’s best wrestler since 1995.
Hodge was a three-time NCAA champion from 1955-57 at Oklahoma.
Perry defeated OU’s Andrew Howe for 174-pound division’s championship during last week’s NCAA Tournament in Oklahoma City. Dieringer won the national title for 157-pounders with a 13-4 major decision over Dylan Ness of Minnesota.
Other Hodge Trophy finalists are all also national champions: Logan Stieber of Ohio State and Penn State’s David Taylor and Ed Ruth.
BARONS PLAYER HONORED BY CHL
Oklahoma City Barons center Alex Lavoie was named Central Hockey League Rookie of the Year by vote of coaches and media members.
Lavoie had 76 points in 60 games with the Allen Americans of the CHL, before he was signed recently by the Barons of the American Hockey League. Lovoie has a goal in three games since joining the Edmonton Oilers’ farm team in Oklahoma City.
