Coale to speak at AAU tournament
Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale will be a featured speaker at the opening ceremonies for the AAU 13-and-Under Girls' Basketball National Championship in Norman tonight.

The opening ceremony will be held tonight at Lloyd Noble Center. A surprise guest with Sooner ties also will serve as torchbearer when AAU Lead Commissioner Bill Tipps announces the opening of the games. Coale is expected to speak at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Fifty-four teams will compete for the title of national champion in the 13-and-under class. Games begin Saturday at six area venues, and the championship game will be played July 19, at Lloyd Noble Center.

•Boxing at Remington: Remington Park will host six pro boxing matches on Tuesday, July 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature some of the nation's top undefeated boxers on CatBOX Entertainment's card.

The main event will feature undefeated super middleweight George Tahdooahnippah "Comanche Boy” (12-0-1, 11 KOs). Tahdooahnippah is a member of the Comanche Nation.

The other featured fighter will be undefeated lightweight Noah Zuhdi (2-0, 2 KOs). Zuhdi is the former starting point guard for St. Gregory's University. He is coached by former World Lightweight Champion Sean O'Grady. Both of his fights have ended with impressive first-round knockouts.

Other fighters in the event include James DuBois (6-0, 2 KOs), Kyle Sherman (9-1, 6 KOs) and Manuel Esparza (19-8).

•Thunander to sign book: Former OU football player Eric Thunander will be signing his new book, "Silent Thunder,” at FireLake Grand Casino on Sunday.

Thunander, a member of OU's 2000 national championship team, overcame many obstacles in his life, including being a deaf football player and experiencing a life-threatening injury, to become an inspiration to others.

Thunander lives in Norman and has been traveling the country speaking to organizations about his struggle with depression and how he found inner strength to survive and the power to forgive.

FireLake Grand Casino is located east of Oklahoma City on Interstate 40 at Exit 178. The signing will take place in the Grandstand Sports Grille from 4-7 p.m.

•Making the grade: Former OU golfer and current Sooner men's golf assistant coach Phillip Bryan was named to the Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.

Sorry but I can't recommend the fight night at Remington Park. The last one I attended had their featured fighters fighting guys making their pro debuts that weren't even decent amateur fighters. It was boxing at its worst.
