Oklahoma State will face West Virginia, and Oklahoma will take on Iowa State will kick off the Big 12 Wrestling Championships on Friday at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Both duals will begin at 11 a.m. on adjacent mats. After the completion of those matches, the Cowboys and Sooners will switch opponents and wrestle again.
The 7 p.m. evening session will feature OSU and OU on one mat and West Virginia taking on Iowa State on the other.
Wrestling will continue at 5 p.m. Saturday with semifinals; championship matches are scheduled to start around 7.
SOONERS TIED FOR FIRST
Oklahoma and Alabama were tied for first place after two rounds of the Puerto Rico Classic on Monday at the Rio Mar-River Course in Rio Grande. The Sooners and Crimson Tide were 19-under par, eight shots ahead of SMU. Eduardo Castiello of OU was tied for first place with Mikey Moyers of Virginia Tech in the medalist race. Both were 7-under 137 for two rounds. The final round will begin at 5:30 a.m. (Oklahoma time) Tuesday.
OSU SERIES CHANGES
Oklahoma State will open the home portion of its baseball season at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Alcorn State (Miss.) at Reynolds Stadium. The Cowboys and Braves will play a second game shortly after the completion of the first; Wednesday's game has been canceled due to a weather forecast that includes snow. Fans can attend Tuesday's game free of admission charge.
*Oklahoma State freshman Marcus Smart was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week — the fourth time this basketball season — after averaging 19.0 points and totaling 10 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and two blocks.
*Lauren Gober of Oklahoma City University was picked Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The Newcastle product had 27 points, 11 rebounds and five steals during a 102-54 victory over St. Gregory's.
*USAO outfielder Jared Coon was named Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week. The senior from Shawnee batted .538 with 10 RBIs. Coon had three doubles, a triple and a home run.
*Oklahoma infielder Matt Oberste was chosen as Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, and teammate Dillon Overton was tabbed as Pitcher of the Week. Oberste batted .429 with nine RBIs; he hit a three-run, walk-off homer on Sunday to help the Sooners sweep Hofstra. Overton surrendered just two hits and struck out seven as the Sooners whipped Hofstra 10-4 in the season opener on Friday at Mitchell Park.
*Tanner Krietemeier of Oklahoma State was Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for baseball. The Colorado native batted .545 with three RBIs. He was the only OSU player to hit safely in all three games against New Mexico. On Sunday, he had three of the Cowboys' four total hits during a loss to the No. 21-ranked Lobos.
