Oklahoma captured the singles and doubles championships Monday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships in Minneapolis, Minn.
Guillermo Alcorta, ranked No. 23 in the nation, defeated Leandro Toledo of Minnesota 6-4, 6-1 for the singles title. Alcorta then teamed with Axel Alvarez Llamas to defeat Anis Ghorbel and James McKie of Drake 8-4 for the doubles championship. Ghorbel and McKie were ranked No. 59 in the nation.
Alcorta and Llamas qualified for the USTA/ITA Indoor Championships from Nov. 8 to Nov. 11 in New York. Alcorta also qualified for singles play.
HELKER NAMED TOP RUNNER
Hannah Helker of Oklahoma Baptist University was named Sooner Athletic Conference Runner of the Week. The sophomore from Edmond North was honored after winning the NAIA Mid-States Classic. She finished the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course in 17 minutes, 03 seconds. Helker has won all four races she has competed in this fall. OBU won the Mid-States Classic team championship as well.
