The Oklahoma soccer team pulled off one the nation's big surprises Friday night, beating No. 3-ranked Oklahoma State 1-0 before 2,475 fans at John Crain Field in Norman. OU notched its first soccer victory against OSU since the 2005 season; since then, the Sooners were 0-11-0 during the regular season against the Cowgirls.
Renae Cuellar, a senior transfer from Arizona, scored at the 66:07 mark. Cuellar has a team-best five goals this season, and the Sooners are 4-0-0 when she scores. The unranked Sooners (4-2-1) had a good night from goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire, who made six saves.
OSU (6-1-1) failed to complement a decent outing from goalkeeper AD Franch, who made four saves.
The Sooners and Cowgirls will have a rematch Sept. 30 in Stillwater.
Both teams have home matches Sunday; OU will play Oral Roberts at 1 p.m., and OSU will take on Rice at noon.
BEDLAM WRESTLING SET FOR DEC. 9
Oklahoma State released a wrestling schedule that might seem ambitious for some programs — but one that is right up the Cowboys' alley.
The Cowboys will take on fellow wrestling powers Minnesota, Oklahoma, Cornell, Iowa and Iowa State. The season opens Nov. 17 at the Lindenwood Open in St. Louis, then OSU begins the home portion of its schedule Nov. 25 against Pennsylvania in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Oklahoma State will take on Minnesota on Dec. 2 in Minneapolis and Cornell on Dec. 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
