Oklahoma scene: Talala's Edwin Evers wins Bassmaster event on Alabama River

Edwin Evers of Talala captured the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on the Alabama River on Sunday with a four day total of 75 pounds, 13 ounces.

Edwin Evers of Talala captured the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on the Alabama River on Sunday with a four day total of 75 pounds, 13 ounces.

The victory earned the Oklahoma angler $100,000 and a berth in the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.

It was Evers' eighth Bassmaster win and his second on the Elite Series. He currently is the leader in the Toyota “Angler of the Year” race on the Bassmaster Tour.

*Central Oklahoma scored four runs in the first inning and went on the defeat Fort Hays State (Kan.) 7-1 to win the Central Regional I softball tournament. Central Oklahoma will host seventh seeded Winona State (Minn.) in super regional play.

*Kaitlyn McElroy of Oklahoma City and Maggie Hogan of San Diego won bronze Saturday in the women's K2 1000-meter race in Szeged, Hungary. The race was part of the 2013 ICF Sprint World Cup. McElroy and Hogan finished the race in 3:54.966 — just 1.008 seconds behind the winner. Two Hungarian boats finished first and second.
