Oklahoma scene: Tia Brooks of OU breaks own school record in the shot put

Brooks, a senior has 10 consecutive meet victories. With the throw Sunday, Brooks leads all NCAA competitors.

Defending national champion Tia Brooks of Oklahoma broke her own school record in the shot put Sunday at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Brooks threw 61-feet, 05.50 inches to win a 10th consecutive shot title of the 2013 season, which includes indoor meets. With the throw Sunday, Brooks leads all NCAA competitors and is the first to surpass the 60-foot barrier.

COWGIRLS WIN TOURNAMENT

Oklahoma State fired a third-round 296 on Sunday to clinch the SMU Dallas Athletic Club Invitational women's golf tournament. The Cowgirls finished the tournament with a 32-over-par 896, which was five shots better than Oklahoma. OSU's Julie Yang was medalist with a three-round 210; she won by seven strokes over the Sooners' Chirapat Jao-Javanil.

WHITE WINS AGAIN

Lindsay driver Harli White won a second feature in as many Oil Capital Racing Series races of the season late Saturday night. White battled from the sixth row to win a 25-lap sprint car race at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore. White, who won the season opener a week ago at Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker, overtook Andy Shouse of Oklahoma City for the lead. Shouse, Whit Gastineau, Kyle Clark and Brian McClelland rounded out the top-five finishers. The OCRS next races at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee.
