Sophomore Whitney Ellis hit two home runs to help lift the No. 13-ranked Oklahoma softball team to an 11-3, six-inning victory over Louisiana Tech (8-11) at Marita Hynes Field in Norman on Tuesday afternoon.
The first five batters of the game all reached base for Oklahoma (14-6). Georgia Casey and Kady Self also homered for the Sooners. It was the first career homer for Self, a freshman.
OU sophomore Kelsey Stevens (9-3) pitched her sixth complete game of the season to pick up the win. Stevens struck out eight and allowed three runs on sixth hits and four walks.
OSU baseball game canceled
Wednesday’s Oklahoma State-Grambling State baseball game at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater has been canceled because of snow and cold temperatures. The game has not been rescheduled.
The 10-2 Cowboys return to action at 6:30 p.m.Friday when they open a three-game home series against San Diego.
Coats earns NCCAA honor
Oklahoma Christian’s Shea Coats, a freshman from Tuttle, was honored Tuesday as the National Christian College Athletic Association’s softball pitching student-athlete of the week.
Coats was honored for her performance as the Lady Eagles won two of three games last weekend at Texas-Permian Basin. Coats threw a complete-game one-hitter to lead OC to a 3-0 win in the series opener, then threw two perfect innings in relief to earn the save as the Lady Eagles took the series finale 6-2.
The Oklahoma State equestrian team has moved up one spot to No. 3 in the latest National Collegiate Equestrian Association rankings. ... The Oklahoma State men’s tennis team rose in the ITA National Team Rankings for the sixth-consecutive week, moving up three spots to No. 15 in Tuesday’s polls.
