Oklahoma scene: UCO athletes earn LSC weekly honors

Hardeman, Noohi honored by Lone Star Conference
University of Central Oklahoma linebacker Terry Hardeman was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the North division. The former Star Spencer High standout had a team-high 12 tackles and had 1½ sacks for minus-12 yards as the Bronchos beat Southwestern Oklahoma State 41-23 on Saturday in Edmond.

AGUERO COMPETES IN MARATHON
Cameron University cross country coach Matt Aguero finished 109th in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The event had 45,000 registered participants. The 26.2-mile race was held despite temperatures in the low 30s and the wind blowing between 30 mph and 40 mph.

Aguero, a Poteau native, finished in 2 hours, 33 minutes and 19 seconds. He was treated by medical staff afterward for hypothermia.

Olympic gold medalist Sammy Wanjiru of Kenya won the race in an event-record 2:05:41.

GOLF HALL TO ADD 4
The Women’s Oklahoma Golf Association will add four inductees to its Hall of Fame in April.

Janice Burba Gibson, an All-American and the 1983 Big Eight champion; six-time WOGA state champion Pat Grant; longtime LPGA member LaRue Beth Stone; and the first OU women’s golf coach, Joan Blumenthal, were selected by the WOGA board of directors.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for April 25 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

RAMEY WINS ASCS EVENT

Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth capped a two-day American Sprint Car Series national points race late Sunday with an A feature win at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. Ramey pocketed $6,000 while holding off fellow Texan Gary Wright and national points leader Shane Stewart of Tulsa.

Stewart leads the standings by 24 points over defending national champion Jason Johnson of Eunice, La. The winner of the ASCS championship will collected $60,000. The next event is scheduled Oct. 29-31 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

Oral Roberts University’s annual Basketball Slam N’ Jam is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Mabee Center in Tulsa. The preseason preview will include both the men’s and women’s teams. The public is invited free of admission charge. ...

University of Tulsa sophomore DeAundre Brown was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. He had a career-high 18 tackles and fumble recovery in a 28-21 loss to No. 5-ranked Boise State on national television.
