WASHINGTON — Two days after calling Senate majority leader Harry Reid an obscenity, Sen. Tom Coburn met Wednesday with the Nevada Democrat about the remark.
John Hart, a spokesman for Coburn, said the senators met and were “square,” confirming a comment Coburn gave to the newspaper Politico.
Coburn, R-Muskogee, called Reid “an absolute a**hole” during a speech to Republicans on Monday in New York.
In an interview on Fox News on Wednesday, Coburn said, “My words weren't appropriate, but my frustrations are real.”
He said the Senate wasn't working as intended because leaders weren't allowing amendments to legislation and forcing a consensus on issues. Coburn has been complaining for years about the lack of Republican input into legislation and last year apologized on the Senate floor for calling Reid incompetent.
