NORMAN — According to Oklahoma senior offensive linemen Gabe Ikard and Bronson Irwin, Sooner fans should keep an eye on Trey Millard and Trey Metoyer this season.
Ikard and Irwin were asked at Wednesday’s Sooner Caravan event to name a player on the OU offense who could have a big season.
“I know he’s done a lot of great stuff, but I think Trey Millard’s gonna be an even bigger part of our offense this year,”Ikard said in a statement that had to be music to OU fans’ ears. “We’ve got a lot of stuff in that puts him in some good spots, so I’m excited about that. He does so much for the team, but we’re trying to get him some more touches.”
Fans have long yearned for Millard, a senior fullback, to receive more carries, but in his three years, he’s only carried the ball 81 times for 441 yards and five touchdowns. He’s also got 59 career receptions for 599 yards and six scores.
Irwin chose to mention Metoyer, a sophomore wideout who entered his true freshman season with sky-high expectations, but only managed 17 receptions, 148 yards and a single touchdown.
“Kind of freakish body, long arms, biggest hands I’ve ever seen,” Irwin said. “He’s made some amazing grabs, one-handed. All kinds of crazy stuff.”
