NORMAN — Oklahoma senior Jalen Saunders has made his name as a standout wide receiver, but said he’d be capable of filling in at quarterback should the Sooners’ get desperate.

Saunders played some quarterback at Pleasant Grove High in Elk Grove, Calif., even leading his team to a city title his junior year.

“Yeah, I believe so,” Saunders said with a smile when asked if he could run OU’s offense in a pinch. “I know every read that needs to be done, so I believe I could run this offense very well.”

He said he was a dual-threat, left-handed quarterback who modeled himself after Michael Vick.

“I don’t know if my arm is as strong as his; I’m very accurate though,” Saunders said.

Saunders has caught 17 passes for 183 yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
