Oklahoma softball: Sooners use five-run third inning to rout Baylor

Oklahoma pitcher Michelle Gascoigne wasn't at her best through Saturday's first two innings. But even as Baylor blasted two home runs and seized early control, the senior stayed poised, knowing her teammates' big bats would eventually come alive.

Sophomore third baseman Shelby Pendley's two-run double in the third inning kick-started Oklahoma's scoring. Two batters later, senior Keilani Ricketts tied the game with her double to left-center, and junior Brittany Williams followed with a two-run single.

All five of Oklahoma's runs in the third inning came with two outs.

The Sooners returned most of their players from last year's Women's College World Series runner-up squad, and Gasso said the team's experiences have made them hungrier.

“This team is different because of the experiences they had last year,” Gasso said. “They don't take anything for granted. They're very hungry, they're very focused.”
