NORMAN — Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso is proud of the damage sophomore Shelby Pendley can do — especially with two strikes.
In Oklahoma's first two games against Iowa State, Pendley's damage is this: six official at-bats, 11 RBIs. Six of those RBIs came in the No. 1 Sooners' 8-0 victory Saturday against the Cyclones, a game in which Pendley went 3 for 4.
“I didn't realize it was that many,” Pendley said.
Pendley had two home runs in those first two games — one of which was a grand slam, the first of her collegiate career.
Pendley ended the game for the Sooners (42-3, 10-1) with a fifth-inning RBI single. It was OU's 17th run-rule victory of the year.
“I just try not to think when I'm up there,” Pendley said of her plate presence. “I'm just seeing the ball well, feeling good up there.”
Sooner starter Michelle Gascoigne (16-2) picked up her eighth shutout of the season. She allowed five hits and struck out four.
The Sooners and Cyclones (19-28, 4-10) play Game 3 of the series at noon Sunday.
