A trio of Sooners were named finalists for the honor of 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced the finalists Wednesday. Senior pitchers Keilani Ricketts and Michelle Gascoigne and sophomore infield Lauren Chamberlain are the Sooners’ three honorees. Oklahoma ties Tennessee with three finalists, while Alabama has four honorees in the final list of 25.

The Top 25 this year is made up of 11 seniors, eight juniors, four sophomores and two freshman that represent 17 NCAA Division I universities and five athletic conferences. Coaching representatives from 11 Division I conferences in the 15 ASA Regions and members of the media who consistently cover Division I Softball will vote on the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

Oklahoma’s Ricketts is 18-1 this season with a 1.04 ERA. She became Oklahoma’s winningest pitcher this week. This season, she has struck out 190 batters with 25 walks in 128.1 innings pitched. Ricketts leads the NCAA with 13 shutouts, while her ERA ranks in the top 10.

Gascigone is 14-1 this season, with 152 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. Gascigone holds the top ERA among all Division-I players at 0.86. She is only one of two pitchers nationally with a mark below 1.00.

Chamberlain, who was the 2012 Freshman of the year, is leading the nation this season with 18 home runs and a 1.118 slugging percentage. She leads the Sooners with 46 RBIs, 48 runs scored, 39 walks and seven stolen bases.

The list of 25 finalists will be narrowed to a top 10 on May 8. Then top 3 will be announced May 22 with the winner being announced on May 28, at the start of the NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
