Oklahoma sports milestones: Nick Capra promoted to director of player development for Chicago White Sox

*PROMOTED: To director of player development for the Chicago White Sox, former Oklahoma Sooners baseball player Nick Capra. He is beginning his 17th season with the Sox organization, previously serving as a minor league manager or scout. Capra, 53, spent parts of nine seasons as an outfielder in the Texas Rangers system, mostly for the Oklahoma City 89ers of the old Triple-A American Association. Capra is considered one of the best base stealers in Oklahoma City professional baseball history.

*DIED: At age 90, former Tulsa Oilers left-handed pitcher Cliff Chambers. As a Chicago Cubs farmhand, he won six games with a 2.01 earned run average for the Oilers in 1942. Chambers returned from World War II duty and was a 10-game winner in 1949 and 1950 for the Pittsburgh Pirates and 1951 for the St. Louis Cardinals. Before he was traded to the Cardinals in '51, Chambers threw a no-hitter as the Pirates beat the Boston Braves 3-0. Chambers was a part of two trades during his career, one involving Anadarko native Cal McLish.
