Oklahoma State baseball: Cowboys rout Kansas

From Staff Reports Published: April 6, 2013

— Oklahoma State's baseball team cruised to a 14-3 win over Kansas at Hoglund Ballpark on Saturday to even their Big 12 series at one game apiece.

The Cowboys (22-7, 4-3 Big 12) collected 18 hits, their most in a nine-inning game this season, and got a strong start from Mark Robinette a day after falling to the Jayhawks, 7-5.

“It was a good response by our team after last night's game when we weren't sharp early on,” said OSU coach Josh Holliday. “We came out today exactly how we talked about, which was to get the first score on the board early in the game. And then you can go around the horn and find a lot of positives about today's ballgame.”

Tanner Krietemeier drove in four of the Cowboys' runs, while Robbie Rea led a trio of Cowboys with three hits that included Victor Romero and Donnie Walton.

Robinette (2-0) allowed six hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Vince Wheeland and Jon Perrin combined to allow one hit the rest of the way.

“Robinette's start was huge — he gave us what we needed,” Holliday said. “He came out and stabilized the game into the seventh inning and gave us a chance to build up a cushion. He threw 104 quality pitches, and he leaves a winner and deservedly so.”

OSU will face the Jayhawks (17-12, 4-4) in Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.
