Oklahoma State baseball: Lobos avoid sweep, throttle Oklahoma State

The Cowboys (2-1) open the home portion of their season at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Alcorn State.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico jumped to big lead early and cruised to a 9-1 baseball victory over Oklahoma State on Sunday at Isotopes Park.

The Lobos avoided a series sweep by hammering OSU starting pitcher Phillip Wilson for five runs on four hits in just one-third of an inning. No. 21-ranked New Mexico (1-2) lead the unranked Cowboys 6-0 after two innings.

OSU bats were relatively quiet, managing just four hits. Victor Romero's run-scoring grounder in the fourth inning accounted for the Cowboys' only score. He drove in Zach Fish, who walked and advanced to third on Tanner Krietemeier's single.

Oklahoma State (2-1) makes sits home debut at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Alcorn State.
