— At times during Oklahoma State's rout of Texas State on Wednesday night, Liz Donohoe trusted her hot shooting hand.

She scored nine consecutive points early in the ballgame, when the Cowgirls were struggling from the floor. And she drilled back-to-back 3-pointers to open the second half.

Then she passed up an open 12-foot jumper.

Donohoe is once again the leading scorer for an 18th-ranked Cowgirl squad that continues its nonconference schedule Saturday afternoon against Texas Southern at Gallagher-Iba Arena. But it's also still a work-in-progress for the sophomore forward to balance her unselfish nature with a go-to scorer's mentality.

“She sometimes thinks, ‘Well, I need to get somebody else involved. I've shot twice in a row, and somebody else ought to shoot,'” coach Jim Littell said. “That's not the shooter's mentality that we want her to have. So we keep talking to her about that.”

Donohoe certainly isn't wrong in thinking her teammates can contribute offensively. Three other Cowgirls — Toni Young (17.4 points per game), Tiffany Bias (11.8) and Brittney Martin (10.4) — are averaging double figures for a team that entered this week leading the nation in scoring at 90.3 points per game. And OSU (5-0) has won 16 consecutive contests when at least four players score 10 points or more.
