Oklahoma State basketball: Markel Brown's picks his top 10 dunks

by John Helsley Published: January 14, 2014

Many have tried producing a “Best Of” Markel Brown jam list. And there’s plenty of favorites to choose from. But what are Brown’s favorites, the dunks he prefers from his own personal collection?

His Top 10:

No. 10: Nov. 12, 2013; Utah Valley State

In an early season home rout of Utah Valley that needed some sizzle, freshman point guard Stevie Clark fed Brown – facing away from the basket – who caught the pass for a throwdown … backwards (2:12 mark).

No. 9: Feb. 7, 2012; Iowa State

Brian Williams was on a breakaway, yet knew Brown was trailing, flipping an over-the-shoulder pass for Brown to corral while flying – yes, flying – to the rim.

No. 8: Feb. 6, 2013; Baylor

Marcus Smart veered right, Brown veered left along the baseline. Then Smart hoisted a cross-body lob that Brown flushed for a reverse jam.

No. 7: Nov. 25, 2011; Virginia Tech

Brown loves the big stage. And there’s none bigger than Madison Square Garden, where he took a feed from Philip Jurick in the lane and extended his body and his arm high before dunking on an unprepared Hokie.

No. 6: Feb. 11, 2012; Kansas

Late in a road loss at KU, a soaring Brown took a 3/4-court heave from Keiton Page and dunked behind three Jayhawks in The Phog.

No. 5: March 2, 2013; Texas

All alone on a breakaway, Brown had time to break out something new in his bag of tricks: a windmill dunk. He pulled it off dazzlingly.

No. 4: Jan. 31, 2012; Texas Tech

Le’Bryan Nash led the break and could have dunked himself, yet instead lifted an assist off the backboard to the trailing Brown, who finished with a flurry.

No. 3: Nov. 15, 2013; Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Brown himself deemed this one nasty, after taking a lob from Phil Forte, then spinning in air for a 360-degree dunk. After the play, he raised his nostrils and waved a hand across his face.

No. 2: Jan. 25, 2012; Missouri

Williams said he knew the Cowboys were going to win when Brown jammed over Mizzou’s Kim English – and it was the opening minute. So demonstrative, it may have indeed set a tone.

No. 1: Jan. 25, 2012; Missouri

Clearly a good dunking day in Brown’s book, he was actually ejected following this jam, for briefly staring – that’s right, staring – in the aftermath. Keiton Page’s alley-oop pass was off target, yet Brown seized the ball with one hand, then brought the hammer down.
