Oklahoma State basketball: Q&A with Cowboys superfan Amanda Marcum-Enfield

BY STEPHANIE KUZYDYM, Staff Writer, Published: March 22, 2013

Oklahoma State got bounced from postseason play on Day 1 of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.

Now, there are 17 more days of basketball.

So who is there to cheer for now?

How about lifelong Cowboys' fan, and Mustang native, Amanda Marcum Enfield and her husband Andy?

Andy Enfield is the coach of No. 15-seeded Florida Gulf Coast, who plays No. 2 Georgetown on Friday at 5:50 p.m. He's also married to a former supermodel, who worked for Armani, Victoria Secret and a whole lot more.

The Oklahoman caught up with Amanda Enfield during Florida Gulf Coast's practice on Thursday in Philadelphia. She has become an Internet sensation over the last few days and she cordially gave her time to multiple media outlets, including ESPN and CBS. The Oklahoman talked with her about the new attention, her life as a super model and, of course, Oklahoma State sports.

So, you and Andy first met because you were trying to watch an Oklahoma State game?

They were playing in Boston and I was living in New York. My friend and I were going to fly up for the weekend and she told me her friend was going up already and it was Andy. So not just a free ride, he ended up being a husband too. Got a marriage and kids out of it.

Was it love at first sight?

No. No. But it worked out after a while. We got engaged pretty quickly after we started dating and that happened fast, but no not right away.

What's it like being here at the NCAA Tournament?

It's so cool. It's so exciting. When we were at the (Atlantic Sun conference) championship game in Macon (Ga.) and realized this weekend we were coming, I got tears in my eyes. It was so exciting the fact that they were able to have this major accomplishment — the coaching staff and the players. It was so exciting.

What did Andy say about coming to Philadelphia and have you ever been here?

Actually, we have. We came here to work out some players a long time ago. It was so long ago. We were really excited to come and my kids saw snow for the first time today in their lives. We were looking out the window and they were like, ‘Oh my gosh.' Because, Florida kids, you can only imagine how their excitement is.
