Organization offers creativity awards
Creative Oklahoma and Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores have teamed up to offer more than $10,000 in cash awards for Oklahoma students. The 2013 Love's Creative SPARKS! Award program is designed to honor student ideas about improving Oklahoma's school and community culture. Entrants must complete an application form and submit creative documentation of their idea through video, creative writing or other representation. Cash prices will be awarded to students and their schools in elementary, middle and high school categories. Winners will be recognized at the State of Creativity Forum on Nov. 19. Number of active rigs declining in OK, U.S.
HOUSTON — Oil field services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the U.S. decreased by seven this week to 1,761. The Houston-based company said in its weekly report Friday that 1,369 rigs were exploring for oil and 386 for gas. Six were listed as miscellaneous. A year ago there were 1,859 active rigs. Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, California gained four rigs, Colorado and North Dakota gained three, Kansas gained two and New Mexico, Ohio and West Virginia gained one. Texas lost 14 rigs, Pennsylvania lost four, Oklahoma lost two and Arkansas lost one. Alaska, Louisiana, Utah and Wyoming were unchanged. The U.S. rig count peaked at 4,530 in 1981 and bottomed at 488 in 1999.
