Count Justin Gilbert as a Cowboy who wishes his near-interception on Oklahoma’s game winning drive in Bedlam would have been reviewed.

The senior cornerback leapt high into the air and got his hands on the ball intended for Sooner receiver Lacoltan Bester, but officials called the pass incomplete. Cowboy coach Mike Gundy did not challenge the ruling on the field, and the Sooners scored the winning touchdown five plays later on a 7-yard pass from Blake Bell to Jalen Saunders.

“It was running through my mind that whole week, wishing that we would have reviewed it,” Gilbert said at Monday’s Cotton Bowl Media Day, his first time talking publicly since Bedlam. “Because I know I had control of the ball.

“But when I hit the ground, the ball was coming out at the same time, so I really don’t know. I watched it a couple times in slow motion. It would just have been a decision that the referees had to make.”

Gilbert has had a superb 2013 season, becoming a Thorpe Award finalist after recording six interceptions and returning two of those for touchdowns. Still, he admits not corralling that pick in Bedlam “hurt a lot.”

“I was hoping (Bell) would try (to throw my way) again,” Gilbert said. “But after the game, he told me that I scared him and he wasn’t gonna come over there again.”
