*Scouting report: With the exception of a three-year break for World War II, these schools will meet in football for an 85th consecutive season. ... Southwestern State had a bye a week ago, giving coach Dan Cocannouer and crew time to work on issues that contributed to a 49-14 loss Aug. 31 at Stephen F. Austin. Tackle Devin Benton was a bright spot on defense for Southwestern State; he had eight tackles, including four for minus-34 yards. Benton also forced a fumble. ... Defense is East Central's forte. The Tigers allowed just 88 total yards a week ago while whipping Southern Nazarene 37-15 in Ada. Defensive end Armonty Bryant was named The Oklahoman's State College Football Player of the Week after he compiled eight tackles, 3.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Five tackles accounted for minus-39 yards. D2football.com and the Great American Conference also selected Bryant as the top defensive player.
