ODDS AND ENDS
*Southern Nazarene football coach Mike Cochran sat in the press box last Saturday for the Crimson Storm's game with Arkansas Tech. A bum knee kept Cochran from standing on the sideline. “It's frustrating not to be on the sidelines,” he said. “I don't like being in the box. I certainly feel like I can call it better from the sideline. Hopefully, I'll be back there next game.”
SNU (0-3) plays Harding (1-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday in Searcy, Ark.
*From the “good and bad in everything” department: Northeastern's defense intercepted five passes, but the RiverHawks lost a 48-3 decision last Saturday to Washburn (Kan.). Kyler Harris, a sophomore defensive back out of Muskogee, had two picks, 13 tackles and two pass breakups.
*Northeastern A&M snapped a two-game skid, beating Southeast Prep (Texas), 42-10. NEO's defense surrendered just 53 total yards.
*Emporia State quarterback Brent Wilson was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Offensive Player of the Week after he torched Central Oklahoma's defense for 571 total yards. The sophomore from Ponca City collected 522 of that passing. He also threw for seven touchdowns.
The passing yards, TD passes and total offense all set MIAA records.
“We never let off the gas pedal,” Wilson told the Emporia Gazette. “The offensive linemen gave me plenty of time to throw the ball.”
