Young missed the Cowboys' first two games after undergoing an undisclosed medical procedure less than two weeks ago. His recovery timetable was projected at 7-10 days, and Gundy said he remained optimistic that Young would be back on the sideline when OSU hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

“I have not talked to him,” Gundy said. “We're running behind (Sunday) because of our schedule, from getting back so late. We're all kind of playing catch-up. I've seen him in the hall a couple times.

“But he's been around. He was around some last week. I hadn't really sat down and visited with him about what his plans are, or if the doctors released him.”

Glenn Spencer, OSU's linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator, has been handling Young's duties in his absence. The Cowboys started the season with a shutout of lowly Savannah State, but gave up 59 points and 501 yards of total offense in Saturday night's loss at Arizona.

LATE NIGHT, EARLY MORNING FOR COWBOYS

Because of the time difference between Oklahoma and Arizona, the OSU charter did not land in Stillwater until about 5:30 a.m. Sunday.
