STILLWATER — Oklahoma State completed its 2014 coaching staff late last week, when the school announced Bob Connelly had been hired as its new offensive line coach.
(At least, it's complete barring any last-minute changes. Remember when former cornerbacks coach Jason Jones left for Mississippi a week before spring ball last year?)
In Connelly, the Cowboys land a veteran coach who has been on staff at schools like Arizona State, Alabama, UCLA and Washington State. Yet he'll be a new face in Stillwater — though that's become quite common in recent seasons, as the OSU staff has seen plenty of turnover.
Today, Glenn Spencer is the only assistant coach who joined the Cowboys before the 2011 season. Yet even with several assistants moving on — often to a position regarded as a promotion — Gundy's Cowboys have continued to win in the Big 12.
Still, let's go back four years and check in on where 2010 Cowboy staff members not named Glenn Spencer are today.
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks: Dana Holgorsen
Left OSU for: West Virginia, where following the 2010 season he went from the offensive coordinator/head coach in waiting to head coach in rapid fashion.
Currently: Still the head coach in Morgantown, where the Mountaineers have had their struggles in their first two seasons in the Big 12. West Virginia went 7-6 in 2012, then 4-8 in 2013. Holgorsen did, however, snag a huge victory over his old squad, beating OSU 30-21 in Morgantown
Replaced by: Todd Monken, who left Stillwater after two seasons to become the head coach at Southern Miss. Gundy then hired Mike Yurcich.
Defensive coordinator/defensive line: Bill Young
Left OSU for: No other school, as Gundy did not retain Young after the 2012 season.
Currently: Not employed. Young temporarily latched on at Wyoming as a defensive quality control coach in November, but head coach Dave Christensen was fired following the season and Young has not found a new landing spot.
